Capture bundles expertise in resource recovery

On 22 November 2017, the Center for Advanced Process Technology for Urban REsource Recovery (CAPTURE) was launched. The CAPTURE platform is a collaboration between professors from various UGent faculties with both Flemish and international private and public partners. Everyone who is active in raw material recycling can be part of the research platform.
In addition, a letter of intent was signed between UGent and VITO for cooperation under the CAPTURE flag. The partners consider plastic, polluted water & CO2 not as waste products but as raw materials. CAPTURE wants to contribute to the marketing of new developments in this area.

TechLane
CAPTURE will expand its activities in a 7,000 m² meeting and incubation center in the Ghent science park on 'Eiland Zwijnaarde' (TechLane Ghent Science Park Campus E). This building must ensure a rapid flow of knowledge into practice. The construction of the CAPTURE accelerator is planned for August 2018. The building will include a huge technology hall, demo infrastructure, joint labs and workplaces. Part of the building will become the property of the Ghent University Incubation and Innovation Center (IIC UGent). IIC UGent has years of experience with guidance and accommodation of spin-offs.

European and regional support
In addition to investments from Ghent University and IIC UGent, CAPTURE is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRO), the Flemish Government and the Province of East Flanders. This involves a total investment of about 15 million euros.
